The CAME FROG is an underground swing gate operator that sits in a steel or stainless foundation box below the hinge. The FROG-A and FROG-AE run on 230V AC; the FROG-A24 and FROG-A24E on 24V DC, with battery backup available through the control board. CAME rates all four for leaves up to 3.5 m (about 11.5 ft) at 400 kg (about 880 lb). We diagnose and repair FROG operators, including ones we didn't install.

The 2024 FROG manuals leave diagnostics to the control board. On CAME's ZM3E and ZLJ24 boards, the display shows these messages:
Encoder - ERROR: the encoder is disconnected or broken.
Safety test - ERROR: the photocells are not correctly connected or configured.
Limit-switch - ERROR: malfunctioning limit switch contacts.
Operating time - ERROR: the maximum work time set has been reached.
Safety devices - STOP: the stop contact (1-2) is open.
C1, C3, C4 or C7: that safety contact is open.
After power-up, the first movement is always an opening.
Most FROG faults are repairable: the gearmotor, release unit, limit switches, encoder and control board are separate parts. Replacement makes sense when the box has corroded or the gearmotor has failed after repeated flooding, or when the leaf is beyond CAME's rating: 3.5 m at 400 kg, 2.5 m at 600 kg or 2 m at 800 kg. The FROG manuals cite European safety standards rather than UL 325, the US standard for gate operators, so if the operator is being replaced, ask for a UL 325 listed model.
CAME says its brushless FROG-X fits existing FROG foundation boxes, which can save digging the box out. Where underground isn't working for the site, an articulated-arm operator on the pillar or a surface-mounted swing operator are the usual alternatives. We check the drainage, the box and the leaf first.
The FROG-A, FROG-AV and FROG-A24 are listed on CAME's US site, and CAME Americas is in Miami Lakes, Florida. Foundation boxes come in cataphoresis-treated steel or AISI 304 stainless. We confirm the version, release unit and control board before we schedule the repair.

Most often, water is standing in the foundation box. CAME calls for enough drainage that water cannot stand in it, and for no sprinklers, pressure washers or trench drains to wet it. Clearing the drainage and drying the box sometimes fixes it; longer submersion can mean replacing parts.
It depends on the release unit. The A4364 lever release turns clockwise after lifting its cover and latches again when the leaf is shut. The A4365 three-lobed key turns anti-clockwise, and the A4366 customised key clockwise. CAME says the system resets automatically after a manual release.
The FROG-A runs on 230V AC; the FROG-A24 on 24V DC, which allows battery backup through the control board. Both are irreversible and rated for leaves up to 3.5 m at 400 kg. The E versions, FROG-AE and FROG-A24E, add an encoder for obstacle detection and travel learning.
Repair, in most cases. The gearmotor, release, limit switches, encoder and board are separate parts. Replace it when the box has corroded or the site floods repeatedly, and ask for a UL 325 listed replacement, since the FROG manuals cite European standards instead.
CAME calls for checking the photocells and safety edges every six months, cleaning and lubricating the release mechanism every six months, and greasing the foundation box pin and the transmission lever.
It depends on the fault, how long the operator sat in water, the condition of the foundation box and how easily we can reach it. We price after an on-site diagnosis rather than over the phone, and the estimate is free.
