The BFT ELI 250 BT is a 24V DC underground swing gate operator: a sealed gearmotor sits in a foundation box under the hinge pivot, with magnetic limit sensors and stops inside the box. BFT rates it for leaves up to 2.5 m (about 8 ft) at 400 kg (about 880 lb), opening to 120°. We diagnose and repair ELI 250 BT operators, including ones we didn't install.

The ELI 250 BT manual leaves diagnostics to the control board. On BFT's THALIA board, which lists the ELI 250 BT among its motor types, the display shows these codes:
Er01: photocell test failed.
Er02: safety edge test failed.
Er03 or Er04: opening or closing photocell test failed.
Er06: 8k2 safety edge test failed.
Er07 or Er08: opening or closing safety edge test failed.
Er1x: board hardware test error. Check the connections to the motor.
Er2x: encoder error.
Er3x: reverse due to an obstacle. Check for obstacles in the path.
Er4x: thermal cutout. Let the operator cool.
Er5x: communication error with remote devices.
ErF3: logic configuration error in the safety inputs or motor type.
SET: the board is waiting to run a complete open-close cycle. Obstacle detection is not active until it has.
The display also keeps a list of the last 30 errors.
Most ELI 250 BT faults are repairable: the gearmotor, limit sensors, release unit and control board are separate parts. Replacement makes sense when the box has corroded or the gearmotor has failed after repeated flooding, or when the leaf is beyond BFT's rating of 2.5 m at 400 kg, or 3.5 m at 250 kg. The ELI 250 BT manuals cite European safety standards rather than UL 325, the US standard for gate operators, so if the operator is being replaced, ask for a UL 325 listed model.
BFT's current underground family is the ELI BT A. Where underground isn't working for a site, the usual alternatives are an articulated-arm operator on the pillar or a surface-mounted swing operator inside the gate line. Both are easier to keep dry and to service. We check the drainage, the pillars and the leaf before recommending either.
BFT no longer lists the ELI 250 BT in its download areas, and its current underground operators are the ELI BT A family. We confirm parts for your unit, including the release unit and limit sensors, before we schedule the repair, and quote a retrofit when a part is no longer available.
Scoped to your property, not a flat per-item rate. These are the factors that move the number, in the order they usually matter. The estimate is free.

Most often, water is standing in the foundation box. BFT calls for a drain pipe so rainwater cannot collect there. If the drain is missing or blocked, water sits around the operator and its limit sensors. Clearing the drain and drying the box sometimes fixes it; longer submersion can mean replacing parts.
BFT's checklist: restore power and make sure the first command opens the gate, reversing the motor wires if it closes instead. Then help the leaf by hand to find any mechanical bind. If both check out, the force on the control board is set too low.
Insert the release key in the release triangle and turn it about 90° toward the open-padlock symbol, release the electric lock if there is one, and push the leaf. To restore, line the leaf up with the lever and turn the key toward the closed-padlock symbol, then check it has engaged.
Repair, in most cases. The gearmotor, limit sensors, release and board are separate parts. Replace it when the box has corroded, the site floods repeatedly or parts are gone, and ask for a UL 325 listed replacement, since the ELI 250 BT manuals cite European standards instead.
The ELI 250 BT manuals we found cite European standards, EN 12453 and EN 12978, and give no UL 325 listing. Check the label on your operator. If it is being replaced, ask for a model listed to UL 325, the US safety standard for gate operators.
It depends on the fault, how long the operator sat in water, the condition of the foundation box and whether parts are still available. We price after an on-site diagnosis rather than over the phone, and the estimate is free.
