01 — SYMPTOMS
6 COMMON FAULTS

Is your HySecurity SlideSmart DC doing this?

SYMPTOM
LIKELY CAUSE
WHAT WE DO
SYMPTOMThe display shows ENTRAPMENT MODE and the gate will not move.
LIKELY CAUSEThe built-in entrapment sensor tripped while the operator was already in Safe Mode from an earlier trip. A real obstruction, a binding gate, wind, a faulty edge sensor or worn motor brushes can all trip it.
WHAT WE DOFind what the gate hit or dragged on, check that it rolls freely with the DC power off, then reset it with RESET or an Open or Stop command and test.
SYMPTOMThe gate will not close by itself, and the display shows FAULT 2.
LIKELY CAUSEA monitored photo eye is missing or failed its check. Since July 31, 2018, slide operators need at least two monitored sensors, one for each direction, and every sensor input must be set before the gate will move.
WHAT WE DOFind the failed or mis-wired eye or edge, make sure its power matches the input (mixing 12V and 24V sensors causes FAULT 2), and test both directions.
SYMPTOMThe gate dies, or opens and stays open, when the power goes out.
LIKELY CAUSEThe two 12V 8Ah AGM batteries are worn or disconnected (ALERT 18 or ALERT 28), or the power-loss setting opens or closes the gate once the batteries drop below 21V.
WHAT WE DOTest and replace the batteries with AGM batteries, check the charging, and set the power-loss behavior you want.
SYMPTOMThe gate labors or stops, with STIFF GATE or STUCK GATE on the display.
LIKELY CAUSEThe motor is drawing more current than it should. ALERT 13 logs a gate that has grown harder to move over time; FAULT 14 means the operator tried three times to move a stuck gate and stopped. Broken or binding gate hardware is the usual cause.
WHAT WE DORepair the gate hardware until the gate rolls freely by hand, then clear the fault and test.
SYMPTOMThe gate stops in the wrong place after a power cycle, or shows NO TARGET.
LIKELY CAUSEThe target magnet on the chain has come off or its sensor wires are damaged (ALERT 15), or the limits need to be learned again.
WHAT WE DORefit the magnet, repair the wiring and relearn the limits, leaving the 1 to 2 inch gap at each stop that HySecurity specifies.
SYMPTOMThe display is blank and an LED is blinking.
LIKELY CAUSEDrained batteries, a wiring fault, batteries that no longer hold a charge, a failed transformer or a failed Smart DC Controller.
WHAT WE DOTest the batteries, transformer and wiring first, and replace the controller only if it has failed.

02 — DIAGNOSTICS
FROM THE MANUAL

Diagnostic notes

The Smart DC Controller shows alerts, faults and errors as text on its display. Common ones from the manual's troubleshooting table:

SAFE MODE: an edge sensor or the built-in entrapment sensor tripped. The close timer stays off until the gate reaches a full limit or RESET is pressed.

ENTRAPMENT MODE: the entrapment sensor tripped again while in Safe Mode. The operator will not run until it is reset.

LOW 24VDC: battery voltage below 22V, about 80% depleted.

DEAD BATTERY: below 21V. The gate opens or closes automatically, depending on its setting.

ALERT 4 MOTOR OVERLOAD: the motor drive heat sink is above 195°F. The gate can only open fully until the alert clears.

ALERT 13 STIFF GATE: the gate has taken more power to move over time. Logged only.

ALERT 15 NO TARGET: the target magnet fell off, its sensor wires are damaged, or the target position was not learned.

ALERT 18 CHANGE BATTERY: the batteries are not taking a charge. The buzzer chirps every minute until they are replaced.

ALERT 28 BATTERY DISCONNECTED: dead or disconnected batteries. The gate may still run on AC power, without backup.

FAULT 2 PHOTO EYE: a monitored photo eye is missing or failed its check.

FAULT 4 GATE NO LOAD: motor wires disconnected, the DC switch off, or worn motor brushes.

FAULT 14 STUCK GATE: three attempts to move a stuck gate failed, and the gate is out of service.

ERROR 8 RPM SENSOR: the motor encoder or its wires are damaged or unplugged.

03 — REPAIR OR REPLACE
THE HONEST CALL

Repair or replace your SlideSmart DC?

Most SlideSmart DC faults are repairable. The display names the fault, and the controller, batteries, drive belt, brushes, encoder and target magnet are separate parts. Replacement makes sense when the motor or gearbox has failed late in the unit's life, or when the gate is beyond its rating: 1,500 lb on the DC 15, 1,000 lb on the DC 10F, and 40 ft long. HySecurity lists the DC 10F for UL 325 Classes III and IV only, so it is not for a residential or public-facing gate.

Retrofit options

Where a gate is heavier or busier than the SlideSmart DC is rated for, we size a replacement from HySecurity's SlideSmart HD or SlideDriver II lines, or another operator rated for the gate. For a site with no power at the gate, HySecurity offers the DCS solar version. We confirm the gate's weight, length and daily traffic first.

Parts availability

The SlideSmart DC is a current HySecurity product, built in the USA. Its batteries must be AGM, and HySecurity lists the part numbers. We confirm the controller, belt or battery part for your unit before we schedule the repair.

04 — COST
5 FACTORS

What drives the cost

Scoped to your property, not a flat per-item rate. These are the factors that move the number, in the order they usually matter. The estimate is free.

FACTOR
WHY IT MATTERS
Fault type
A realigned photo eye or relearned limits cost less than a failed controller or motor.
Gate condition
STIFF GATE and STUCK GATE alerts often mean the gate needs repair as well as the operator.
Batteries
HySecurity suggests new batteries after two years where backup matters, especially in hot climates.
Safety devices
Two monitored sensors are required. A missing one has to be added, not bypassed.
Paired gates
Dual or interlocked gates have two operators and a communication link to test.

HySecurity SlideSmart DC FAQs

Who repairs HySecurity SlideSmart DC gate operators near me?

Veritas Access Solutions repairs HySecurity SlideSmart DC operators across Los Angeles, Ventura and Kern counties, including operators another company installed. We read the display, diagnose on site and give you a written diagnosis before any work. Call 661-605-3266, or text a photo of the display.

What does ENTRAPMENT MODE mean on my SlideSmart DC?

The built-in entrapment sensor tripped a second time while the operator was already in Safe Mode. The gate stops and will not run until it is reset with RESET, the button on the operator, or an Open or Stop push button. Find what the gate hit or dragged on before resetting it.

Why won't my SlideSmart DC gate close by itself?

Usually a monitored photo eye. Slide operators need two monitored sensors, one for each direction, and every sensor input must be set before the gate will run. A missing or failed eye shows as FAULT 2, as does mixing 12V and 24V sensor power.

Should I repair or replace my SlideSmart DC?

Repair, in most cases. The display names the fault, and the controller, batteries, belt, brushes and encoder are separate parts. Replace it when the motor or gearbox has failed late in its life, or the gate is beyond its rating of 1,500 lb (DC 15) or 1,000 lb (DC 10F) and 40 ft.

What happens to a SlideSmart DC in a power outage?

It runs on two 12V 8Ah AGM batteries, rated for up to 4,000 ft of gate travel after AC power is lost. A setting decides the rest: open or close automatically when the batteries drop below 21V, open five seconds after the power goes out, or wait for an open command.

How do I open a SlideSmart DC gate by hand?

Turn off the operator's DC power switch. The motor disengages and the gate can be pushed by hand, and the AC power can stay on. The operator remembers its limits. Make sure the gate is still before turning DC power back on, then clear any fault with STOP or RESET.

What does HySecurity SlideSmart DC repair cost?

It depends on the fault, the condition of the gate and batteries, and the safety devices on site. We price after an on-site diagnosis rather than over the phone, and the estimate is free.
