Swing gate with an arm operator and a wall-mounted control box

DoorKing 6050 / 6100 Repair & Retrofit — Southern California

Two AC swing operators on one board: the 6050 for homes, the 6100 for busier gates.

The DoorKing 6050 and 6100 are 115V AC swing gate operators with a two-piece articulating arm, sharing one control board and one manual. The 6050 is rated for Class I residential use, 400 lb and 10 ft; the 6100 for 500 lb, 14 ft and 60 cycles an hour. We diagnose and repair both, including older -080 units and ones we didn't install.

01 — SYMPTOMS
6 COMMON FAULTS

Is your DoorKing 6050 / 6100 doing this?

SYMPTOM
LIKELY CAUSE
WHAT WE DO
SYMPTOMAn alarm sounds for five minutes, then the operator chirps every 5 seconds and will not run.
LIKELY CAUSEA hard shutdown. The built-in reverse sensor sensed two obstructions in a row before the gate reached a limit, so the operator stopped and shut down its standard inputs.
WHAT WE DOFind what the gate hit or bound on, check that it swings freely, then reset the operator and test. It keeps its limit settings through a hard shutdown.
SYMPTOMThe gate opens a short distance, then stops and reverses.
LIKELY CAUSEA slipping clutch, a gate that binds, the single or dual-gate setting (SW 4, switch 7) set wrong, or the magnetic sensor that counts the operator's travel sitting more than 1/32 inch from its counter ring. A Pulse LED that does not blink while its operator runs points to the sensor.
WHAT WE DOAdjust the clutch, free the gate and check the SW 4, switch 7 setting, then reset or replace the magnetic sensor. Replace the board only if those check out.
SYMPTOMThe gate opens but will not close.
LIKELY CAUSEAn input is holding it open, such as a loop detector, safety device or keypad with its LED on, or the operator is in a soft shutdown after an obstruction. For automatic closing, the timer switch must be on.
WHAT WE DORead the input LEDs, clear or repair the device holding the gate open, and send an open or close command to reset a soft shutdown.
SYMPTOMThe operator will not run, but the Power LED is on.
LIKELY CAUSENo working monitored entrapment device. The 6050 and 6100 will not run without at least one monitored photo eye or edge in each entrapment area, with its UL 325 switch turned on. A sensor LED that is on or flashing points to that device or its wiring.
WHAT WE DORepair or replace the device or its wiring, confirm its switch is on, and test.
SYMPTOMThe operator will not run, and the Power LED is off.
LIKELY CAUSENo power to the operator, low 115V supply, a low-voltage short or an overheated transformer, and after those the terminal strip or the board.
WHAT WE DORestore power, let an overheated transformer cool, find any low-voltage short, and test the supply at the board before replacing it.
SYMPTOMOnly one gate of a pair moves.
LIKELY CAUSEThe secondary operator has no control board of its own. A switch setting on the primary's board, the wiring between the two operators, the secondary motor or its capacitor are the usual causes.
WHAT WE DOCheck the board switches, test the secondary motor directly, and repair the wiring or replace the motor or capacitor.

02 — DIAGNOSTICS
FROM THE MANUAL

Diagnostic notes

The 6050 and 6100 use no numbered error codes. The 4502 control board reports through LEDs and an alarm. From the manual:

Power LED: low-voltage power is reaching the board. Off means no power, an overheated transformer or a short.

Input LEDs: should be off, lighting only when an input is active. One that stays on is holding the operator.

Pulse 1 and Pulse 2 LEDs: blink while the primary and secondary operators run. One that does not blink points to that operator's magnetic sensor.

Monitored sensor LEDs: on or flashing points to that device or its wiring.

Loop LEDs: flash when each loop is activated.

Alarm for five minutes, then a chirp every 5 seconds: a hard shutdown after two obstructions in a row. The operator stays shut down until it is reset.

Soft shutdown: after one obstruction the gate stops or reverses and waits. Any intended input resets it.

The clutch must slip with no more than 40 lb of force.

03 — REPAIR OR REPLACE
THE HONEST CALL

Repair or replace your 6050 / 6100?

Most 6050 and 6100 faults are repairable. The board, motor, capacitor, clutch, belt, arm parts and magnetic sensor are separate parts, and the secondary operator has no board to fail. Replacement makes sense when the motor or worm gear has failed late in the unit's life, when a 6050 is on a gate that has outgrown its Class I, 10-cycles-an-hour rating, or when the leaf is beyond 400 lb and 10 ft (6050) or 500 lb and 14 ft (6100).

Retrofit options

A 6050 on a busier gate steps up to the 6100 on the same board and arm. Older -080 units retrofit to a current 6050 or 6100, with the monitored sensors the current version requires. Neither model has a built-in battery, so a site that needs the gate to run through outages needs DoorKing's backup inverter or a DC operator such as the 6524. We check the leaf, the pillar and the traffic first.

Parts availability

Both are current DoorKing products, built in Inglewood. DoorKing has published separate manuals for three board revisions since 2011, so we confirm your unit's board revision before we schedule the repair.

04 — COST
5 FACTORS

What drives the cost

Scoped to your property, not a flat per-item rate. These are the factors that move the number, in the order they usually matter. The estimate is free.

FACTOR
WHY IT MATTERS
Fault type
A clutch adjustment or a reset sensor costs less than a failed board or motor.
Clutch and drive
A slipping clutch or a binding gate is behind many gates that open and then reverse.
Safety devices
Each entrapment area needs a monitored device. A missing one has to be added, not bypassed.
Backup power
There is no built-in battery. Adding backup means a separate inverter.
Number of operators
A double gate has a primary and a secondary operator to diagnose and test.

DoorKing 6050 / 6100 FAQs

Who repairs DoorKing 6050 and 6100 gate operators near me?

Veritas Access Solutions repairs DoorKing 6050 and 6100 operators across Los Angeles, Ventura and Kern counties, including older -080 units and operators another company installed. We read the board LEDs, diagnose on site and give you a written diagnosis before any work. Call 661-605-3266, or text a photo of the operator.

Why does my DoorKing 6100 beep every 5 seconds and not run?

It is in a hard shutdown. The built-in reverse sensor sensed two obstructions in a row before the gate reached a limit, so the operator stopped, sounded its alarm for five minutes and shut down its inputs. It stays shut down until it is reset, and keeps its limit settings. Find what the gate hit first.

What is the difference between the DoorKing 6050 and 6100?

They share a control board, arm and manual, and both run on 115V AC with a 1/2 HP motor. The 6050 is rated for UL 325 Class I only, gates up to 400 lb and 10 ft, and 10 cycles an hour. The 6100 is rated for 500 lb, 14 ft and 60 cycles an hour.

Should I repair or replace my DoorKing 6050 or 6100?

Repair, in most cases. The board, motor, capacitor, clutch, belt and arm are separate parts. Replace it when the motor or worm gear has failed late in its life, or the gate is heavier, longer or busier than the model is rated for.

How do I open a DoorKing 6050 or 6100 gate by hand?

With the power off, pull the crank arm attached to the operator away from the gate so the arms are no longer in a straight line, then go to the end of the gate and pull it open. It takes a strong pull. If the arm has a locking pin, remove the padlock and pin first.

Does a DoorKing 6050 or 6100 work in a power outage?

Not on its own. Without AC power it fails safe, so the gate can be pulled open by hand. DoorKing sells a backup power inverter for sites that need the gate to keep running. When power returns, the first open command runs a full cycle to relearn the limits.

What does DoorKing 6050 or 6100 repair cost?

It depends on the fault, whether the board or motor has failed, the condition of the clutch and belt, and the safety devices on the gate. We price after an on-site diagnosis rather than over the phone, and the estimate is free.
